The cats had just begun to gather the day that Lillian, an orphan girl, was bitten by a poisonous snake. To keep her from dying, they changed her into a kitten. Lillian was devastated to see her beloved aunt frantically searching for her missing niece, not realizing the kitten rubbing against her legs was Lillian. Lillian then knew she had to find someone who could turn her back into a girl. She befriends several magical creatures, including Old Mother Possum, who used her magic to turn Lillian back into a girl. But when Lillian returned home she found her aunt dead. She again traveled into the wilderness to find a way to reverse what happened, and was sent to find the Bear People. With the help of a surprising friend she was able to return to the farm to make her life right again. This story of bravery, friendship, and self-discovery is a tale filled with enchantment and adventure. Susan Black, Librarian, Arlee (Montana) Elementary School.
